Lymphatic Drainage
What is Lymphatic drainage massage? Lymph is a clear-to-white fluid made up of;
- White blood cells, specifically lymphocytes, which are the cells that attack bacteria in the blood and body tissues
- Fluid from the intestines called chyle, which contains proteins and fats
The Lymph system is a network of organs, lymph nodes, ducts and vessels. It is a major part of our immune system.
As our Lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump, like our circulatory system, sometimes it needs a little help to keep things moving. This is where Lymphatic drainage can assist.
Your therapist will use a gentle massage technique designed to stimulate the Lymphatic system, which may become sluggish or overwhelmed due to a number of reasons including surgery, periods of low to no movement (bed rest, long haul flights etc), pregnancy or illness. Lymphatic Drainage can help to reduce swelling, boost immune function and promote detoxification.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage can also be beneficial to those suffering anxiety or have a highly strung nervous systems, by calming the autonomic nervous system.
Unlike our other services, Lymphatic drainage treatments use a super light and rhythmic stroke to stimulate the flow of lymph through the body.
Please note: it is important that you book a Lymphatic Massage from the selection for your initial appointment. If you are recovering from surgery within the last 3 weeks you will require approval from your specialist before treatment.
